11 Wood Sage Crescent – My dream bungalow!

My last home visit… and I found the house *I* would love to buy!

First look – a lovely etched glass front door and windows whose “starburst” design matches up across the door frame. Inside the hall, to the right, a similar etched glass wall which separates the entrance from the formal dining room. That area is roomy and a large front window gives it good light.

Walk to the back of the house to find the kitchen and living area. The living room is large and bright. It has floor to ceiling windows. Along the long wall is a good-looking gas fireplace set in a wide cultured stone column. To the left of that, there is an entertainment wall housed below a quarter arch. Together, the fireplace and entertainment centre make a very good looking feature wall.

The kitchen has dark maple cupboards, granite countertops and stainless appliances. I really liked the mosaic backsplashes and the island’s casual bar seating area. There is an informal eating area behind the kitchen and off that, a doorway leading to a screened porch. The porch could easily be converted into an all season room by replacing the screens with windows. Either way, it’s a very cozy area. Stairs down from the screened porch lead to a paved stone patio with Japanese style privacy walls. A few steps down from that area leads you to the back gate which opens out onto a public sidewalk and neighbourhood “feeder” road.

There are two side hallways in this home. The small back hallway leads you to the master bedroom. This bedroom’s windows face out towards the “zen” garden/patio area. The bedroom has a walk in closet with built in maple shelving and garment racks. The master bath has a double sink, plenty of cupboard space and a large mirror. There is a shower area (glass walls had not yet been installed with two shower heads… one fixed and one wand. There was a large soaker tub.

The second side hallway leads you to a second bedroom and second bathroom as well as the laundry area and garage entrance. The second bedroom is large and has a large closet with built in shelves. The bathroom has a tub surround and granite counter top. The laundry room makes good use of space. The washer and dryer are full sized but stacked. There is a sink in the laundry room and cupboard space. The garage is only a double but it is very roomy. The central vac’s canister is housed along the front wall of the garage. This will make it convenient to dump the “dust bunnies”.

The lower level of this home is fully finished. The slightly curved stairwell leads you into a large recreation area (on the left) which is the full length of the house and half as wide. At one end, a projection TV is mounted in the ceiling and a large screen is mounted on the wall. A wet bar is at the opposite end of the room along the side wall. There is plenty of room for a pool table if you wish. At the back of this long recreational area is a downstairs walkout with stairs leading up to the “zen” patio. Since this area is below ground level, I checked for drainage at the foot of the stairs. Not to worry… proper drainage is present.

Are you an exercise nut? There is a tiled area to the right of the stairs complete with LCD TV screen and mirrors so you can step onto your treadmill, elliptical trainer or whatever and get immersed in you favourite TV show.

The other half of the lower level has two large bedrooms with good sized closets. At the far end of the hallway is a large full bathroom.

Where is the utility room you ask? It is housed below the stairs in the middle of the lower level and it is what separates the bedrooms from the recreational area.

Personally, I liked this home so much that I bought a lottery ticket right after I left Sage Creek in the hope that I’d have enough money to come back the next day and buy it. It might not suit everyone, but it sure suited me! :)

  1. The screened in porch off the dining nook is a great concept that allows you to slide outside and enjoy the fresh air while dining in comfort.
